🛍️ Google Launches AI-Powered Virtual Try-On, Smart Price Alerts & Visual Style Search
Google is stepping deeper into the world of AI-driven online shopping. On Thursday, the tech giant officially launched a new virtual try-on feature, giving users the ability to see how clothes look on their own bodies — not just on models.
Available in the United States starting today, this tool works across Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images. Users can upload a full-body photo and tap the “Try It On” icon next to supported product listings to see a realistic AI-generated preview of themselves wearing the apparel. Looks can be saved or shared with friends, making it easier than ever to shop confidently online.
👕 Try Clothes on Your Own Body — Virtually
Google previously allowed shoppers to view clothing on a variety of models, but this latest upgrade goes further — enabling a personalized virtual fitting room experience.
The technology uses Google’s generative AI to map clothing onto your uploaded image, taking into account fit, drape, and lighting to make the rendering realistic. The feature currently supports a wide range of clothing items already indexed in Google’s Shopping Graph, which houses over 50 billion product listings.
💬 Doppl: A Deeper Dive Into AI Style
Google also recently introduced Doppl, an experimental AI-powered app that takes virtual try-on to the next level. Doppl allows users to curate personal styles and even generate AI videos of themselves wearing the outfits, offering a near real-life experience of how clothes move and look in motion.
While both Doppl and the new Search try-on feature use the same underlying tech, Doppl is geared more toward style discovery and personal branding.
🔔 Smart Price Alerts Just Got Smarter
Alongside the try-on feature, Google rolled out a major upgrade to price alerts. U.S. shoppers can now set:
- Desired price range
- Preferred size
- Specific color options
Once your conditions are met, Google will automatically notify you. This taps into the Shopping Graph’s vast product and pricing data, eliminating the need for constant manual price checks.
🛍️ “We’ll let you know when there’s an offer that meets your criteria,” said Danielle Buckley, Google’s Director of Consumer Shopping.
Coming Soon: Outfit & Room Design Inspiration via AI
Google also teased an upcoming generative AI feature arriving this fall. It will allow users to:
- Search for outfit inspiration (e.g., “green dress for garden party”)
- Explore interior design ideas (e.g., “minimalist bedroom with oak furniture”)
Using Google’s vision match technology, it will generate shoppable visual ideas based on your prompt, paired with real products from retailers.
